I am thinking of the microwave in my kitchen as well as countless radar installations worldwide. Do they not use pulses of electromagnetic waves, and do they not employ shielding to protect people and the environment? What is the phenomenon that is awry here with the A320? And why just now?

These events are caused by the release of built-up magnetic energy, often near sunspots, and can last from minutes to hours. Solar flares can impact Earth by disrupting radio communications, GPS, and power grids. * Cause: Magnetic energy that has built up in the Sun's atmosphere is suddenly released. This often happens when magnetic field lines snap and reconnect. * What is released: A large amount of electromagnetic radiation (including X-rays, gamma rays, and radio waves) and energetic particles are ejected. * Appearance: Flares are seen as sudden flashes of light and are difficult to observe without specialized instruments because they are seen against the bright surface of the Sun. * Intensity: Flares are classified by their strength, with C-class being the weakest, followed by M-class, and X-class being the most powerful. Each letter represents a 10-fold increase in energy. * Impact on Earth: * Radio and GPS: Can cause temporary blackouts in high-frequency radio communication and affect GPS signals. * Satellites: High-energy particles can damage or destroy sensitive electronics on spacecraft. * Astronauts: Radiation exposure can be a risk for astronauts in space. * Power grids: Powerful flares can potentially disrupt power grids. * Auroras: Flares can lead to geomagnetic storms that create more intense and widespread auroras (the Northern and Southern Lights) Bob Ditchey From: Robert Ditchey via Mifnet <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2025 6:46 AM To: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> Subject: [Mifnet 🛰 74803] Re: Global airlines race to fix Airbus jets; US reports little disruption - Reuters 20251129 Is there a Mifnet Member that can offer us an explanation of how “Solar Flares” can interfere with the flight control computer and explain this problem? Mike Borfitz (and his partners) perhaps? And what is the remedy to the vulnerability? What makes the vulnerability unique to the A320? My understanding of the solar flare is that this is a high energy pulse of electromagnetic radiation. Can’t this be handled with some type of shield? And why does this only manifest itself in pitch control equations?
