Not claiming to be an expert on such things, but the DC10-10 (AA ORD incident) was powered by an early CF6 variant, whereas the UPS MD11 had a much newer version of the CF6. (Were the nacelles different as well?) And so, might there be less βcommonalityβ between the two airplanes and thus the two incidents than some here (and elsewhere) have cited?
