When expanding its 737 fleet, SAA anticipated being able to use common flight-deck crews. However, due to incompatible switches and some other issues (that I donβt recall well), they had to use two different pilot pools. This created a bunch of inefficiency.

The MD80s Aa night from TWA had the switches reversed from what is conventional. The early America West birds also have the switches reversed even now.
