If my elementary school 'rithmetic is correct, this means that at least 167 million Americans did not fly during 2025. Not sure how many of them were infants and children below the age of unaccompanied travel. Given the extent of car ownership and the extensive network of Interstate and other limited access highways, not to mention the well-publicized problems and increasing cost of commercial air travel, I find this data point entirely credible. "Flyover Country" includes lots of people at ground level burning up fuel and rubber. If you are an elected official in DC commuting back to the home district every Thursday evening to raise funding, all that really counts is to/from Washington National, ideally nonstops, so naturally the airline business gets your close attention. Also, statistically, the "median resident" is not the same as the "average voter."
