Eric, Agreed that PHL might pick up some of the spill/wreckage/refugees from this craziness. Having survived 7 years in Center City PHL (residential + office location) in the 1970's, I have a residual feel for the geography in play. If memory serves, the dividing line between northbound (toward EWR and the Big Apple) and southbound (toward PHL and Patagonia) traffic flows can usefully be divided by an east-west line from Trenton to Bay Head Junction on the Jersey Shore. There is a reasonably large population catchment area here.
It is not helpful to the PHL case that the airport lies south of the city, toward Wilmington and Baltimore, where BWI's catchment area kicks in. But geography, like climate and time, is beyond human control, as military commanders have discovered over the centuries, often to their, and their countries', cost. (See Napoleon in Russia and the Iberian Peninsula, Churchill & Co. at Gallipoli, Hitler at the Channel and again in Russia, the US repeatedly in the Middle East...the list goes on.)
