I’ve seen multiple reports of that as well. I think they are intended to match production spec once Boeing completes the modifications, unlike the “terrible teen” 787s which are significantly overweight. However, the modifications for each early 777X will be different, ranging from significant structural modifications on early ones to fairly minor tweaks on later ones. They also need to have life-limited fluids, seals, etc. replaced. I can imagine airlines being at least wary of that. -- Karl
