Okay, so what is a V46?  (I tried Google, no luck.)  Maybe one of the Convair 
reengined turboprops?

 

As for Rainbow Economy, I’m not sure Pan Am was first with other than First 
Class transoceanic service, but you are right that it began the end of Atlantic 
steamship operations.

 

Separately, note that United only reluctantly embraced Coach/Economy service.  
Remember the all-First Class Caravelle and DC6 “Executive” flights EWR-ORD and 
LAX-SFO.  While Pan Am was offering two-class flights to HNL, United persisted 
with First Class DC7’s and Coach DC6B’s.

Re nonskeds, I can recall flying in a V-46 (correct) from Miami to Cincinatti 
in early 1950. No recollection of which carrier.
