Scot Gibson was the most right: it was the computerization of reservations and pricing that likely increased travel. "Dynamic Pricing" didn't exist until computers made reservations quick, accessible, and easy. That was about the time AA started its Super Saver discounts. It started before deregulation. Remember all the fussing about computer reservation systems at this time?.
I was in the CAB's Fares and Rates section in 1976 when I reviewed PAPER tariffs tor my daughter's graduation gift from high school. I drove to Braniff's ticket office in Washington and got good prices on the Orange Braniff 747 (two stops to Seattle before the 747). I watched the ticket agent enter the seats into their computer., But that was also the source of their pricing, it wasn;t yet on-line. So, if Deregulation was the cause of lmaking air travel more affordable, cover the dates on the attached graph and tell me when deregulation started. IT was improved aircraft and engines that caused lower prices, helped by significantly increased pricing availability. [image: image.png]
