Hi all,
I would like to share some thoughts about the reporting activity. My
understanding is that Thoughtworks is migrating the existing reports from
Jasper to BIRT (roughly 10 reports). Kieth and Ravi are creating the
reporting schema to be used for the 8 new reports.
Currently Ravi is the only developer that is developing the Talend jobs
(roughly 13 so far) but the schema is not yet complete.

- What is the estimate to complete the schema for all the reports?

- We have one report assigned to us, who is going to develop the other
ones? Thoughtworks? Only one developer to work on reports + ETL jobs is
underestimated.

- If we are going to use BIRT for the new report as well, we would like to
be talk with the Thoughtworks colleagues to leverage their experience. At
the moment my team doesn't have any meaningful experience with BIRT.

- Why are we discussing about Mondrian?

I propose to officially release this feature for the next release (as we
have informally discussed) and define a plan for the next release. I would
also like to have a place where we can commit the code (the Talend jobs for
example) so that Ravi and Kieth can easily collaborate. What about creating
a development branch for the reporting activity?

We have also some technical question concerning how to embed the Talend
jobs in Mifos.

- Are we going to use the already existing Timer based jobs executor? Any
plans to use Quartz for example?

- Are we going to have a different configuration file to configure the ETL
datasources (isn't it error prone? a config file for Hibernate and one for
the Talend jobs?).

>>>>>> - Has anyone estimated how the ETL jobs execution will affects the
already existing jobs that run during the night ? <<<<<<

- Who is going to decide if BIRT based reports will use scripted datasets
or SQL datasets? Any choice will require a development activity, again it
is too much for a single developer. This choice should be made in the high
level design for the reports.

Regards,
Max
