Hello Saurah,

Good to hear this. I am interested in further development of the solution. Its
obvious that for Microfinance instiitute to be highly effective in most
regions, the use of M-Banking will be of high demand. The trend is being
followed in Philipines and Kenya. I will really appreciate if you can let us
proceed on this. Moreso you have done some simulations using J2ME, we can move
this scenario to real life situation. We need to more about the soap engine
used in MIFOS.

So what is the next step to moving forward

Hi Tom,

We have created a POC (proof-of-concept) on accessing MIFOS through mobile
devices.

For POC we have done following things >>
1) Exposed one of the functions of MIFOS as web-service.
We have hosted the web service on "Apache Tomcat" with "Apache axis" as soap
engine.
2) Access this web-service through J2ME client.
We have created a simple client application using J2ME; using this client we
can pass accountID and can get details about the same.
(Note that we have executed this client on simulator and not on real mobile
device.)

Do let me know if you are interested in moving this idea further. We would like
to contribute for this project.

Hi Tom,

Good to hear that. I was about to send the same message now till I saw yours.
For mobile banking I am interested. We need to look at the various business
models and to integrate it with Grameen model and MIFOS. In additions, there is
another solution on using EFTPOS as one of the banking channels. We can get
some codes and see how we can build on them. However, we need to know about
MIFOS API for this or betterstill how to put the solutions together

Hi Tom,

I would first suggest signing up on the mailing lists and joining the
IRC channel. This is the best way to keep abreast of community
activity with Mifos.

There isn't a functional spec for mobile banking that I know of, so
you might start with your own proof-of-concept. Here's how to get
started with the code:

Looks like we've been thinking about this for a while:

Cheers!
