Resolved by Sumit Shah, applying fix suggested by Jim Stamper
Needed to relink broken symlinks are broken in /etc/solr/conf:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 63 2010-09-14 14:50 schema.xml ->
/var/www/test_mifos_com/sites/all/modules/apachesolr/schema.xml
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 67 2010-09-14 14:50 solrconfig.xml ->
/var/www/test_mifos_com/sites/all/modules/apachesolr/solrconfig.xml
