Description:

For individual lending situations in particular, MFI's would like to upload/retrieve files (images, spreadsheets, wordprocessing...)
The ability to attach files to a client or loan and add a description (similar to how Jira does it) would very probably suffice.
Anyone know if there is open source code to do this or how best to go about it?
Note: Mifos X is multi-tenanted so more than one MFI can be hosted and 'ids' will overlap
I haven't fully thought this out and don't want to prejudice how someone would approach this with my untested ideas (i.e. I'm pretty sure I'm behind someone who has implemented this type of functionality before). For this work, I'm happy that anyone who could view the item (client or loan) can also upload/view all associated files and the Mifos X team can think about permission related issues afterwards.
I think we could store the files on the demo server we provide (which happens to be ubuntu EC2 instance). And, at the risk of going too far I'd see the file structure something like so: We'd have a base directory under the tomcat webapps Root called Documents. We'd create (lets say manually for now) a sub directory for each of the 'tenants' (we host more than one MFI per server in separate databases). Then each 'client' or 'loan' that the 'tenant' has could have its own directory within that.
e.g. Documents\gk-maarg\Client-29 would have all the files for client 29 of MFI gk-maarg and Documents\gk-maarg\Loan-343 would have all the files for Loan 343 of MFI gk-maarg
So the app could easily pick up on the naming standard (as well as validate unauthorised access requests). I'd imagine there would be some metadata as well in each directory containing at least a long description of the files in the directory. I'll stop there as I think I probably am going too far :) We'd also be very happy if someone takes a very different approach such as re-using an open-source document management/file upload application.
