First off, this is not a functionality that was specifically asked for by GK. But it would be something they would be interested in and would help us logically round of all document/file management functionality for MifosX.
The Idea is to keep customers photographs and generic document management services separate (It would be cleaner to keep document management services as is and only use them for attaching random documents against multiple entities in the system like clients, loans, savings, staff, client identifiers and any new entities that are added later (insurance policy? etc)
For client images, we could add a new column "image_key" (not a strict requirement for file system appender as we will be using a "predictable" file structure for saving the same, but would make thinks easier while adding an S3 appender)to the client table and expose the relevant services (from ClientsApiResource) to optionally add/edit client photographs.
These services would also have validation to only allow image files (jpeg,png,gif etc) less than a given length (say 1 mb for starters) and would store images in a separate location than the document upload service (for easier system administration should somebody chooses to use the default file system appender)
Ex folder location: tenant name/clients/images/{clientid}/{image file}
We might also need to add an Amazon S3 appender for the same, but is out of scope for the current issue
