Spring should of converted it into its own set of exceptions to handle this? If it doesnt do this would be an issue across the board in platform.
To solve this praticular issue with would mean putting a flush after the save in the user domain service.
In general this catch for database integrity issues should happen outside of the first transaction boundary which makes it a bit more awkward code wise. so best to use the flush approach for now.
