[~keithwoodlock] This improvements also make for nicer reports (I know quite a few mifos users liked having the short product codes for reports they needed to print out on daily basis etc)
Personally, I would think that all the reports that ship with the community app should use these short office/product codes, so am in favor of making it mandatory from an app perspective.
If others like Musoni also see value in it, I don't see much harm in making it mandatory from a platform perspective too (an API breaking change, would ship as a major release)
[~keithwoodlock] and [~sanderheyden], do you have any reservations on the same?
If not, [~ct.madhukar] will be making the same mandatory and the product short codes for all existing products would be defaulted to the first two letters of their name + their id as a part of the sql upgrade.
