Hi Soham (and everyone else),

I think everyone is very interested in bandwidth requirements for Mifos, and
its something we can¹t really get a good picture for until we have collected
some  metrics from various installations.

But first, to answer one of your original questions, here at ENDA we¹re
planning on using a dedicated dsl connection that has 2mb down and 1mb up.
(The upload being the key requirement here). We¹re just getting started on
the rollout so we don¹t really know if that will be sufficient, so our
backup plans include either upgrading the bandwidth (if and when that
becomes available from the telco) or possibly adding on another 2mb/1mb dsl
connection and splitting users between the two different ips (which would
point to the Mifos instance internally), although we¹re not 100% sure this
will work yet.

That said, I¹d like to engage the community in collecting some metrics.
First, I¹d like to start with a simple survey, so if you are on this list
(http://mifos.org/community/mifos-deployments) or if you are actively using
Mifos, please respond:

For Mifos server-
Type of connection: (dsl, cable modem, t1, etc)
Bandwidth up/down:
Dedicated or Shared:
How many clients connect daily? (aka, through the internet connection and
not on a local network):

For clients (who are connecting from offsite, not on the local network) -
Average are fine -
Type of connection(s):
Bandwidth up/down:
Dedicated or shared:
How many clients share this connection, if at all:

Once I¹ve collected information from a few MFIs, I can put a matrix up on
mifos.org for comparison. After that I¹d like to start a small initiative
to start collecting some bandwidth metrics. I think at a minimum collect
* Number of Users
* Amount of traffic up/down
* Per hour, per day, per week

And collect it at least over a month or two.

Once we¹ve collected some data from a few different MFIs, I think we can
start to build a picture of bandwidth requirements for Mifos. In the end,
I¹d like to have some chart that says ³For x to x clients, you need xxx up
and xx down², etc.
