Hi Dusmant,

We're very excited to hear about your evaluation of Mifos! I hope we
can help answer your questions. I've moved this question to the
mifos-users list, since your questions are more appropriate for this
mailing list.

There are several ways to customize Mifos to work for your needs. The
best way for us to evaluate what approach makes sense is for you to send
us a list of gaps. Our team, and others in the community, can then
review and make suggestions for work-arounds or other approaches to
solve the problem.

Grameen Koota (who I believe you've visited) has solved many of their
customization needs by writing scripts that run directly against the
database. For example, Mifos doesn't have a feature that automatically
applies late fees to overdue loans. GK wrote a script that they run
every night to charge these fees. This approach requires a deep
knowledge of the database, a great deal of testing, and dedicated staff
to run and monitor this script-but it can work. This approach might
work for some of your gaps.

Alternatively, if the gap requires code changes-this can be much more
difficult. There is a firm we've worked with in Bangalore that has deep
experience working in the Mifos code. You can contact us directly if
you want a reference to that company.

Data migration in any project is typically a long and costly process-but
the difficulty of the migration depends a lot on how ditry your old data
is and what format it is in. With our partner in Tunisia, it took about
3.5 people 4 months to migrate data from their legacy system into Mifos.
Some of this complexity came from the fact that they were migrating
historical data. If you just migrate current accounts, then the work is
much less. There is another group in Bangalore, SunGard, that has done
some Mifos migration for Grameen Koota. Again, you can contact us
directly if you'd like more information.

Others on the list might be able to share their experience with data
migration.

Hope this helps!

Emily.

Subject: [Mifos-developer] Mifos Implementation Difficulties

I, at Adhikar working actively to implement mifos. But I am wondering
how can I be able to handle specific application cusomizing issues. I
have conducted the Gap Analysis and found some process or functionality
needs to be customized. How can I get support in this. And as we have
large number of client data in our existing system, how can I migrate
them into mifos. What level of complexity involves in data migration and
application customization.

Is there some mifos specialist team there in India who can help me in
this regard. I will be happy if anyone contact me in this regard.
