Hi Michael,

I have a set of questions that I am forming that we could ask all
existing/future MFIs to fill to give us a better of idea of how best
to deliver an MIS solution to MFIs.

I have read the profile available for Niranata which answers a few of
the questions: http://mifos.org/community/whos-using-mifos/nirantara-india

Organisation related
-----
1) How many clients to you serve? (looks like this is ~10,500, is this
still the case or more?)
2) How many branches? (looks like 7, is this still the case?)
3) How many staff in organisation/per branch?
4) What business roles exist in the organisation? (e.g. are there data
entry staff, credit officers, managers, board members)
5) Is the organisatons purpose a social one or profit driven?
       - Is social performance measurement/monitoring and reporting important?

In Niranta case, its looks like they are very much socially driven
and care about social performance.

 The case study
(http://www.nirantara.org/MicroSave_RBS_Case_Study_on_Nirantara.pdf)
was interesting and I would be interested in seeing any documenation
around '...The microfinance operations (from group formation to day
end branch and head office procedures) have since been mapped, key
risks have been mitigated, and the key documents have been translated
into Kannada and made available at all the branches. These now form
the core of Nirantara’s new Operations Manual and have resulted in
improvements in products and systems...'

Portfolio Product related
-------

6) What products/services are provided? Loan, Savings, Insurance,
Other? (looks to be joint liability loans (group loans)
      - are the joint liability loans tracked on a per individual
client member basis or purely through the group in full itself?
7) Do you have the notion of 'centers' or 'kendra' in your organisation?
8) What parts of mifos are essential? Clients/Groups, Loans and
Reporting on these?
9) What other information to you track in relation to clients/groups/loans?

Software/Technology related
----------

10) What type of internet connectivity exist at your branches? (as
they seem to use mifos through cloud, this is likely good.)
11) Do you require 'offline capabilities' for some/all branches (most
likely no in this case.)
12) Do you prefer Local Installation or 'Cloud' installation of an MIS
software and why? (looks like they use private cloud)
13) Do you handle hosting/installation/maintenance yourselves or is it
outsourced to another company?
14) How much does it cost to deliver this at present?
      - how many staff are needed that are not core to microfinance
serivces to help manage MIS/IT?
      - or How much per month/year does it cost to have MIS service?
 15) Is overall IT cost reasonable or deemeed high?

Thats all i could think of at the moment.

regards,
Keith

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
