Mifos Users,
Following up on Kakha's email, we had a good discussion last week on
accounting in a meeting on December 6. Full notes from the meeting can be

We voted on and decided there were two major next steps to pursue with
accounting in Mifos:
1) Implement simple accounting functionalities within Mifos - this will
keep the majority of customers happy and provide the basic accounting needs
for those without an external package:
** Build UI for inputting general debit and credit transactions into Mifos
** Develop simple financial reports that can be generated off of this data.
Next steps on this are to fully document the requirements and then identify
volunteers to lead this effort. Progress can be tracked via this JIRA

2) Stronger Accounting Bridge for Mifos - everyone agreed that no single
accounting package can meet the needs of every MFI and that integration is
the right approach for larger MFIs with more sophisticated accounting
needs. To better integrate with those accounting packages, we need a
strong integration point that provides greater flexibility around chart of
accounts and the mapping of financial transactions (i.e. splitting
transactions into multiple GL accounts).
** Community is debating between integrating with Molly versus building
this bridge from scratch.
Next steps are to continue explore pros and cons of each approach and for
Molly/MostFit and Mifos teams to discuss collaboration and estimate the
level of effort of the two various approaches.
