Michael, The tomcat-jdbc jar seems to be from a much earlier version of tomcat 7 (7.0.19) its probably not the reason for what you are seeing - it would be good to follow those steps to put in all the tomcat 7 jars from a later release e.g. apache-tomcat-7.0.29 or later
It the problem persists please post back link to the expection you are getting this time round (might not be exact same) If it is the same - its likely to be to do with the JNDI setup Keith.
