The next quarterly release of MifosX (March end) would have a UI and API
for importing opening balances, refer

For now, you would have to manually do the same (i.e create a contra
account for opening balance / equity and make journal entries for creating
opening balances for different accounts by crediting/debiting the contra
account and making the opposite entry for the account needing an opening
balance)
