Savings account linkage is relevant from the context of linking it to loan
accounts and linking to fixed deposit accounts.
When a savings account is linked to a loan, you can disburse the loan
directly to the linked savings account. By linking the savings account at
time of creation, you can also configure a stranding instruction for
automatic repayments to the loan account from the linked savings account.

If you want to fund a fixed deposit with the proceeds from a savings
account, you must link a savings account at the time of account creation.
