Hello everyone,
Google Code-In only just concluded two weeks ago and it seems like
yesterday we just finished Google Summer of Code. We graduated a strong
class of interns in 2016 and are looking forward to participating in GSOC
once again.
Applications are due February 9 so by that time we need to have a strong
list of ideas in place and a committed group of mentors.
We had an overwhelming amount of interest in 2016 which I hope we can
duplicate again this year if we are to get accepted.
The coding program officially runs from May 30 to Aug 29.
*Developers!*.
If you're a partner or developer and looking for a wonderful way to give
back to the Mifos community - mentoring for GSOC is an impactful way that
is both fun and rewarding. We highly encourage you to consider being a
mentor. If interested please respond to this thread or email me directly.
If you know someone who would be a good mentor, don't hesitate to invite
them.
We have a developer meeting scheduled for February 2 at 1300GMT
<https://attendee.gototraining.com/rt/1967023383856296194> so let's use
that as a means to solidify our list of ideas.
*Partners & Users!*
Regarding our list of Ideas, this year the process will be a little bit
different since we're still in the midst of transitioning from Mifos X to
Apache Fineract and also transitioning to Generation 3 of the Mifos
Architecture.
As we did last year, the majority of ideas we'll submit for our application
will be related to Mifos X distribution powered by Apache Fineract
including web app (Community App), mobile apps (field officer,
self-service), and other modules (data import tool, etc.) powered by Apache
Fineract.
By the time Google Summer of Code is underway, Generation 3 of Mifos
(Apache Fineract 2.0) will be available - any ideas related to that would
fall under the umbrella of Apache and developers there are still assessing
if there's bandwidth to mentor.
We'll be refining the list of ideas started at:

Mark your calendars and register for our February 2 developer meeting
<https://attendee.gototraining.com/rt/1967023383856296194> - we'll use part
of it to discuss being a GSOC mentor, and refine our list of ideas.
