Hello Mifos community,

DIAL (Digital Impact Alliance) has been generous enough to sponsor an
Outreachy intern for Mifos during the winter session (Dec 4 to March 4,
2019)

The format is similar to Google Summer of Code but its focused on promoting
diversity in free and open source software. Anyone who faces systematic
bias or discrimination in the tech industry of their country is welcome to
apply. You can read all about Outreachy below.

The project we have available is super-critical (finishing up our rewrite
of the Mifos X web app) and we've got a great mentor in Abhay ready to
steer the way.

Interns who complete their projects successfully earn a $5,500 stipend.

We have zero applicants yet and the due date is November 6 so if you know
anybody in your region who would be a good fit for this remote internship,
I highly encourage them to sign up through the Outreachy site, begin
contributing, and apply before the deadline.

To see the full project description, one must sign up as an applicant:

Applications are now open for Outreachy, an internship program that
supports diversity in free and open source software. Outreachy offers
remote, three-month internships with a $5,500 stipend and a $500 travel
stipend. Outreachy expressly invites women (both cis and trans), trans men,
and genderqueer people to apply. We also expressly invite applications from
residents and nationals of the United States of any gender who are
Black/African American, Hispanic/Latin@, Native American/American Indian,
Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander. Anyone who faces
systematic bias or discrimination in the technology industry of their
country is invited to apply. https://www.outreachy.org/apply/

Interns work remotely with experienced mentors in free and open source
software projects. The internships are often focused on programming tasks,
but some projects offer internships in user experience design, graphic
design, documentation, web development, marketing, translation, and more.

The Outreachy internships run from December 4, 2018 to March 4, 2019. More
details and eligibility criteria can be found here:
https://www.outreachy.org/apply/eligibility/

Applying to Outreachy is a little different than other internship programs.
During the application period (September 19 to October 30), applicants are
expected to make contact with one or more of the project mentors, and make
a contribution to the project. Outreachy organizers have found that the
strongest applicants contact mentors early, ask a lot of questions, and
continually submit small contributions throughout the application period.

Please let us know if you have any questions about the program. The
Outreachy organizers (Karen Sandler, Sage Sharp, Marina Zhurakhinskaya,
Cindy Pallares, and Tony Sebro) can all be reached at through our contact
form https://outreachy.org/contact <https://www.outreachy.org/contact/>
