I know I have had ipad and mac working with Mikrotik for VPN, pretty
sure using encrypted and pptp. Don't have the apple devices any more so
couldn't get MAC side setup

Thanks - but no firewall was involved in the testing.
After many hours of testing many different combinations of OpenWrt,
Linux, Mac OSX and Mikrotik I have given up on the combination of
OpenWrt+Mikrotik.
I couldn't get Mac+Mikrotik to work either but don't actually need that.
I decided to just port forward to jump past the Mikrotik so I will
have OpenWRT on my end and Linux on the remote end. Makes the routing
a little clumsy but I can live with that.
