Does the interface drop? OSPF? Any static routes, including default routes which are not normally used while OSPF is up?
Is it possible the router on the other end of the AF5X link is sending the packets right back to this router due to a routing loop? If you don't have RX or TX errors on the interface and the interface isn't bouncing, my money is on a routing loop. It may be a few hops the other side of the AF5X link. If you can torch it while it's happening, easier said than done, you'll know pretty quickly.
