Yes and no. After about 10 miles, the difference between vertical and horizontal goes away. If the TX phase is the same (and it often will be), then at >10miles distance, you will have signal combinations that "cancel each other out", rendering the benefit of multipath null. That's as clear as I can make it in an email.
