I have a recently-purchased 260GS switch attached to two SXT r5 links and an
SXT G2 AP. Two of the ports are nominal, but a port serving one of the SXT r5s
is now reporting wonky (way too low) current and power. Several days after
installation, it began shutting the SXT down in a reboot loop because it wasn’t
drawing enough current. I ended up having to force the POE out on to stop that
behavior, but the switch still thinks the power is way low. Unfortunately, the
SXT r5 has no health sensors, so I can’t say what it is really drawing, but I
don’t think there is any way it is really running on 8mA, right?
Anyway, MikroTIk asked me to run a “recalibration” before they would RMA the
unit. Their documentation says I have to set the port to calibrate, then have
someone unplug the cable. Unfortunately, documentation of the procedure stops
abruptly there.
I’m half a state away from this unit, and there is no phone service in its
vicinity, so the non-technical guy who would have to disconnect the cable needs
to get marching orders by phone before driving out to it and doing whatever has
to be done. If (for example) he has to wait 60 seconds and then plug it back
in, he has to know that. I don’t have a unit of this type available to me
here, so I can’t play with it.
What precisely is the tester supposed to do after disconnecting the cable?
