Recent update for miktex changed application which was responsible for update. Instead of few different applications (update and settings), I use now mikTeX console. One tab is responsible for update and other for settings. There are few remarks about new application.
MikTeX setting had few tabs. On the first tab there was two buttons on the top of tab. First button 'update fonts' (I am not sure about proper names) was not very important, because update application made it automatically. But second button (update find database) was very important, because I had to run it each time when started update application even no update was available. Usually it is run automatically when I run pdflatex application, but I usually run 2 copies of pdflatex at the same time because I prepare papers on two languages and compile both papers at the same time. Now I have to compile one paper, and after another to make sure that database is refreshed.
