Kieth Little from "Pchelp" did a review of a program called Lockdown
2000 http://www.nwi.net/~pchelp/bo/LDtest.htm that claims to make a
computer safe from trojans and hacking. His review wasn't favorable and
Lockdown has contacted his web host and threatened to sue for big money
if they didn't remove the unfavorable review. Lockdown's side of the
story is that Keith Little has a grudge because he had asked Lockdown
for a free key code to test the program and they wouldn't give him one.
(I guess Keith doesn't know that there are several cracks that will fix
Lockdown so you can "evaluate" for as long as you want.)
I'll stick my neck out and probably get sued too... because I tried
Lockdown a few months ago and foud it TOTALLY worthless. I had a friend
connect to my computer with a backdoor program and he was writing files
and making transfers and Lockdown never woke up and recognized any of
the security breaches. I was very suspicious that the program was
really lame when I saw that it had a 3 day test period. That is very
strong evidence they want people to pay for it before they find out it's
a piece of crap. Lockdown claims to "Stop someone from getting on your
computer and reading your email, viewing sensitive data and downloading
or deleting files." This is TOTALLY FALSE.
It amazes me that a search on "internet trojans" turns up Lockdown2000
over 80% of the matches from all the major search engine's matches.
I have to say that the thing that disappoints me most about all this is
that so many so called security experts have written favorable reviews
that Lockdown has posted at their site.. and I know DAM well that these
"experts" NEVER tested it. If you bought this program you should demand
your money back. If you see some site giving it praise you should send
them email, suggesting that they at least TEST it and avoid the
embarassment of reaching the conclusion that it's worthwhile.
