decreasing the volume of your tape player should solve the problem.

please understand that mic input is connected to somekind of amplifier in the blackbox
of the soundcard and that line input
isn't. the wave amplitude going through mic connector will be multiplied and if the
result amplitude wave is higher than the
allowed value, the excess would be cut off and the output is what you called 'break'.
