"State and Local Police Take Aim at Internet Criminals"

State and local police throughout the nation are forming
special units that target Internet crimes. In Virginia,
Special Agent C.D. Wells often takes on the identity of
children or older men in order to catch sex offenders and
child pornography rings. The Virginia State Police unit is one
of many Internet squads that police the Web. Los Angeles
County has reported that 20 percent of its cases involve
e-mail or other electronic communications, so the need for
such units is great. Because of the growing number of Internet
crimes, the U.S. Justice Department is preparing a review of
Internet crime to help answer legal questions.
