Two really Great points.

You are right.  I wouldn't normally break dependencies either and was flippant in explaining that option without proper caveats.  I would recommend leaving SA installed.

For the stubs, great point. What would you estimate the RAM usage is?  I'm assuming pretty tiny.

We're about to put out MIMEDefang 2.85 and can build one without SA as a dependency if you think it's more than a few Kilobytes.

Best,

KAM

I believe that dependency is just typical not required. You should be
able to look for something in the command line parameters for DNF
that is something like - - no-deps when you remove the package and it
will do what you ask regardless of any dependencies.
I wouldn't recommend that. Running a system with broken dependencies is
an invitation to a world of pain.

However, it also won't hurt anything to have spamassassin there. Just
takes up a little disk space as long as you turn off any services
like spamd.
Well, every mimedefang.pl process will have unnecessary glue code using
up RAM unless you hack mimedefang.pl... which again invites a world of pain
from your package manager.

Regards,

Dianne.
