First, you should not use clamscan, you should use the direct clamd socket connection to speed up scanning. And I can tell you that mimedefang is much more stable on FreeBSD than the clamav-milter, because clamav-milter had severe bugs (no locking for getnamebyhost(), hosts_access()) etc ... In the developer version they might be fixed.
