I ran across a milter once before that did an ahead lookup. It tried to deliver to the next smtp server in the chain to see if it was deliverable before it accepted any.

It might if you had all of your addresses in LDAP.



I've been working towards this for my (very small) setup, but
unfortunately don't control my MX boxes - and am not likely to be
in that position for some time :(



I have the opposite - I MX for some domains where I don't control the addresses... And where I do they aren't all in LDAP.
