What you might do to get the most bang for your CPU cycle is: 1) Run clamav-milter first - this should catch most known viruses 2) Scan in MIMEDefang using some OTHER virus engine
I dont think I am going to save a lot if I implement this, because I will still be scanning every message with MIMEDefang. This would almost certainly help the server during a flood of new activity, but the ratio of virus to legit mail isnt high enough for this to be helpful all the time. I will be running File::Scan on the machine through MD, but I would not expect it to catch something that clamav missed..
