To underscore the point a bit more fully, here's a post by one of a Mozilla developer who gets 10,000 virus messages a day, and ended up with a corrupted inbox because his mail client's filters couldn't handle the deluge:

I suppose he could be stress-testing Thunderbird, but at that volume I'd be inclined to switch all filtering server-side (ie. with procmail).
