I just do:
chown -R dfs /usr/src/redhat
Substitute your login for "dfs".
This may not be possible for policy reasons on a shared system.
Yep, that's a good approach for a single-user system. If you're extra paranoid, you can create a separate user for just building RPM's and chown that directory to your RPM-building persona.
