Alan & Kelson: I believe you are totally right. I have configured the internal_networks parameter to have the internal 192.168 class C and the external IP address of the gateway .
And as Joseph pointed out, we are also doing similar MD/SA configurations that had limited the damage of the configuration which had confused things greatly.
