Could you be thinking of this bug? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=116192 That wasn't a locking bug. It was a weird bug whereby Berkeley DB would, for no reason at all, sleep for one second whenever it needed to allocate memory! It's still present in Fedora Core 1, I believe.
