Well, I think that the changes you've made to sendmail.mc, were not applied to sendmail.cf, which is the actual configuration file that sendmail uses.
yes well i'm on freebsd so i'm using HOSTNAME.mc and HOSTNAME.cf but you might be on to something
First, check the date/time stamp of both sendmail.mc and sendmail.cf in /etc/mail. sendmail.cf should be newer.
yes thats the case, the .cf file is being updated. Its time stamp is newer than the corresponding mc file.
