It's possible to install the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module without installing sa-update, spamassassin or spamd. I admit that it's unlikely, but still: In principle, a distribution could split SpamAssassin into something like perl-Mail-SpamAssassin and spamassassin-tools, for example. There should be a way to query Mail::SpamAssassin for this info.
