Yes, I might buy that argument if Google weren't a free email provider.
But it is; spambots can (and do) break CAPTCHAs of free email providers
and routinely use them to send spam.  And although Google may be pretty
good at stopping spam, it's not perfect.  I want the originating IP
address so I can use it in my decision-making process.

xs4all provides services to paying customers, so you at least have
some idea of the end-user's identity.  Google has none at all.
