One would hope that the parser would spit out more details, at least. Could one run MD interactively with Perl running under gdb, set a breakpoint at the mystery Perl message, and look at the Perl binary state to see what it's really complaining about? Or has the interpreter evolved some secret switch to dump a more informative error structure when that happens?
