That's a diagram of the class hierarchy, which I did
spend time examining.  What closed it for me was the
diagram of a moderately complex MIME message.

You also may find the formal MIME definition helpful, primarily RFCs 2045-2049. There's an example of a complex MIME message in Appendix A of RFC2049 at https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2049#page-15
