Forgot to forward this converstation about SASL to mina-dev mailing list.
It would be great if all mina users post messages to mina-dev. :)

 Hi Trustin,

Thanks for this. I've found the performance of MINA to be fine – Styx is
not a high-performance protocol so I'm not looking for speed in particular.
The main area in which the performance is an issue is in file transfers. In
Styx, files are transferred in chunks: the client says "Give me the first
8KB", then the server responds with the first chunk of data, then the client
says "Give me the next 8KB" and so forth. This back-and-forth nature of the
protocol means that a lot of small messages get exchanged, and so file
transfers are slower than simply opening up a stream connection. If there's
any way of "tuning" MINA for this application I'd be interested to hear it.

Cheers, Jon

Hi Trustin,

I'm still using MINA for my project (you might remember me being in touch
with you several times a few months ago!) and am finding it extremely
reliable, a great piece of software (my project page is http://jstyx.sf.net
in case you're interested but it's not finished yet). I'm pleased to report
that I've never had a problem with MINA 0.8.

Yes, I remember you of course. It's also great to hear that MINA is working
fine for you. How's the performance? :)

I'm interested in using SASL to secure my project. I notice that this will
be supported in version 0.9. Is it supported in the latest unstable version
(perhaps from SVN)? I haven't managed to find much information about it on
the web.

MINA 0.9.x supports StartTLS, but not SASL yet. SASL is a very generic
authentication mechanism so I'm not sure I can create a filter for it.
Fortunately, SUN abstracted SASL mechanism into an API:
