Please use Google and glance at the slf4j docs (or even the overview). Slf4j plugs into log4j, jcl, and much more: pretty much anything you like (and anything, really, that you could write a simple interface to).
That's so people can use whatever logging framework they like, much like you want to. It's a very thin abstraction, and it is very small. In fact, SLF4J was probably chosen for the specific purpose of decoupling MINA from logging implementations.
