This is the viewpoint I agree with.. I'm using PicoContainer, and I configure the ByteBuffer prior to container startup.
The primary advantage to removing the static allocation methods would be for running multiple MINA instances in a single JVM with different allocation strategies. I don't see that being a large enough draw to warrant changing the API though.
