I got bored - obviously sharing Chris' attention span and attitude - perhaps Orn's about "pop" too. I have a signed copy of Rutherford's descriptions of his experiments - an old school prize that made me realise I was too thick for physics and turned me to biochemistry. An interesting ruse Slip -almost deconstructive! As researchers, we are supposed to listen to everything, yet this is not realistic - bull gets in the way of what clarity and direction we can glimpse, yet our bull-detectors can also get in the way. Bacon's Idols have always struck me as good BS detectors - yet he, like Foucault more recently were drug experimenters. I guess my stance is that there are no UFOs and I'm bored with the people who report them - the same holds for this kind of stuff. Yet we too easily discard alternative sensing and the creation of a material world very different from the one we are used to. I feel very offended by the cacophony around me and would like to explore silence without becoming a hermit. That bit of me that is scientist doesn't like stuff like this at all - yet science brings me back to these questions - I am equally bothered by Cardinal Dawkins and restriction to "how". We have bacteria that make complex detergents that allow them to return to earth from the clouds by making it rain. The Sherlock Holmes in me thinks a game is afoot! I genuinely feel a certain relief that many who converse in or pass through this group share a world of sorts. If I occasionally experience Orn (say) as ornery it is in pleasure. There is more to explain, even for little old tropical fish realist me. I've had some vivid "halloucogenic" (drat - no spell-check suggestions!) experiences of late. Has Chris been sending me plants through the post? Is Molly constructing spells? Or is something drifting through the walls from the druggies next door? Maybe it's Orn's monks? Those flying Harringtons? All I really know is that Orn has a dictionary that will help me spell "hellosuegenic"! I regularly see weird things in board meetings and the like - Imps on people's shoulders, chattering chimps and sometimes some really warm illusions. For that matter, I have regularly seen the tailors from the Emperor's New clothes hornswaggling finance directors with dross based on the single Gaussian copula to hide pigs in pokes and sell them off to the unwary.
