I've nothing significant to add, nor anything even moderately
informative. However ...

Two attorneys were relaxing at the local pub after a long but rather
lucrative day. A beautiful brunette walks in and sits down at the
other end of the bar. One of the attorneys notices her and says to
the other, "Say, let's go screw the brunette." The other one looks
up, appraises her and says, "Okay, out of what?" ((my favorite
attorney joke!))

Regarding economics, socialism and capitalism, pure socialism seems to
turn into fascist dictatorship and pure capitalism, well, we're seeing
the results that happen from the greed it fosters.

However I like the concept of capitalism because it captures the
adventuresome and freedom-loving spirit of human beings and is the
best means of creating wealth. With the proper balance of controls
against greed, which I think should be government's job until we can
mature and grow into capitalism, we can enjoy the benefits of such
wealth that capitalism can create. This is something socialism cannot
do -- create wealth.

My only objection to socialism, other than the political
ramifications, is that it seems to lead to the destruction or at least
the severe diminishment of the human spirit. People on welfare lose
their competitiveness, lose their ability to find their way in life,
until they become similar in repose to animals caged in a zoo.

Of course society -- which includes government -- has a responsibility
to each of it's members. A society that cannot lend aid to it's less
fortunate members is not a society, it's a ragtag assembly of everyone
out for themselves and to hell with everyone else.

However, arguing capitalism vs socialism is a moot point. The world
is capitalist and I don't see any way of stuffing Pandora back in her
box. Besides, there is nothing inherently wrong with capitalism.
What's wrong is the human inability to control their own greed and
avarice. Capitalism is relatively new though and given my positive
attitude about the human race, I think it's really just a matter of
growing into it and strengthening our own moral character. I'm
looking to the current administration to take us a long way in that
direction.
